The following are some of the inherent characteristics of a traditional halogen lighting fixture (seen above):

  • Very inefficient, produces little light for power consumed; approximately 12 lumens per watt.
  • Rated life average 1500 hours.
  • Bulbs will fail prematurely if handled by unprotected hands (oils from skin).
  • Fragile bulbs will rupture or break if shocked
  • Filaments burn/blow often without warning.
  • Runs hot and will burn skin if touched.
  • Poses a fire hazard due to heat produced.
  • Creates significant load on air conditioning due to heat produced.
  • Only available in one colour temperature.
